Antique Diminutive Welsh Dresser Base
A particularly charming antique Welsh dresser base, distinguished by its diminutive proportions. Possibly made as a child’s dresser, it has an attractive arrangement of two long upper drawers, each fitted with a pair of decorative brass drop handles, above two smaller drawers.
The drawers are set within a shaped front, with a gently scalloped apron above an open potboard shelf, incorporating a slender turned central support.
The rectangular top has a deep oak finish, with a lovely depth of colour and naturally varied patina developed through age and use. A narrow moulded rail runs along the back edge, possibly intended to help display plates or other objects displayed on the top.
A rather unusual and appealing piece of traditional Welsh country furniture, with an attractive combination of colour, form and decorative detail.
